Violent disagreement strikes again

Earlier this morning my phone dinged to alert me that a breaking news story was about to air on YouTube by one of my favorite news reporters. I picked up my phone to scroll down to read the headline and thought to myself…”oh boy, what is is now?”.

The headline” Slovakian leader shot.

As is stands now, the Slovakia Prime Minister, Robert Fico has sustained life-threatening injuries after being shot multiple times while greeting a crowd outside in the town of Handlova.

The alleged attacker, Juraj Cintula, a former security employee and a writer/activist is hospitalized. Across the X platform’s slew of posts about the incident, there is a report that the attacker has made a statement:

“We disagree with the government’s policy.”

That being said, since when does disagreeing with policy give way to shooting a person? I know, it’s a dumb question isn’t it? But really, how far back in this country can we recall important leaders being shot over policy, viewpoints, causes, etc.? MANY YEARS!

MLK once said, “disagree without being violently disagreeable”. Everywhere in this world it has been shown that people still cannot resolve their disagreements without some violent action, whether it’s riots, acts of assault, burning flags, and shooting someone.

What is all this teaching our young people? Again, I say, no wonder the younger generation are having so many social and mental health challenges.
