What does POTS stand for? Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome
What is it? A disease of the autonomic nervous system which controls a wide range of bodily functions.
POTS is now considered to be another complication of “long-COVID”. Health professionals are seeing an increase POTS patients.
Symptoms of POTS:
- Lightheadedness
- Fainting
- Rapid heart rate after 10 minutes of rising
The excessively reduced volume of blood that returns to the heart when a person stands up is what leads to the lightheadedness and fainting. The cause of POTS is unknown.
